On January 1, 2024, Malta became the new Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), overcoming Russia’s months-long blockade of the Estonian Chairmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This decision, made at a ministerial meeting in Skopje, was an essential milestone in the organization’s work. The Russian Federation, seeking to block the Estonian Chairmanship because of its attitude to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, jeopardized the unity of the OSCE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thanks to the mediation of North Macedonia and Moscow’s assistance, Malta took over the Chairmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Malta’s Foreign Minister, Ian Borg, defined his country’s role as relevant and vital to the OSCE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Malta committed itself to supporting Ukraine, along with Finland, during the conflict and after it ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
