On February 5, U.S. Federal Judge Deborah Boardman blocked the U.S. President’s decree that would have abolished birthright citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the judge, it contradicts the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution, as well as the 125-year practice of the Supreme Court and the 250-year tradition of granting citizenship by birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will Trump’s decree be declared unconstitutional?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The judge noted that the children who would have been affected by the order would have lost the rights and benefits of U.S. citizens, and their parents would have faced uncertainty about their children’s future status. Boardman emphasized that no court in the country has ever upheld such an interpretation of presidential authority before, and this case would not be an exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also expressed the opinion that the decree will likely be declared unconstitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who filed the lawsuit against Trump?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This time, 5 pregnant women from Maryland, as well as 2 immigrant rights organizations, filed a lawsuit against Trump’s order. The attorneys general of 18 states also announced plans to challenge the decree in court, considering it illegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This court decision blocked Trump’s initiatives to restrict immigrants’ rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
